Garden Tour with Fort Williams Park Foundation and Maine Home+Design Magazine
For the first time on July 9, 2011, a few hundred attendees toured eleven private properties sprinkled from the seaside through the marshes, woods and fields of Cape Elizabeth – the 1st Maine Home + Design Cape Elizabeth Garden Tour.
Every year since, homeowners in Cape Elizabeth, Scarborough, and South Portland graciously step forward, offering their support to this Fort Williams Park Foundation fundraiser. While access is normally restricted to outdoor areas, in 2013 the owners of Garrison Field – a spectacular English Tudor-style manor home and garden – opened their home for an inside tour as well.
Due to the support of these generous homeowners, as well as the many sponsors, advertisers, and volunteers who contribute every year, the Cape Elizabeth Garden Tour has become an annual tradition that attracts participants from many towns around Portland and far beyond.
Funds raised have contributed to landscape restoration projects in the Arboretum at Fort Williams Park, such as Cliffside, Lighthouse View, and the Children’s Garden, as well as ecological education and oral history projects involving local school children.
